Reverse Engineering – Decode the Hardware is a logic-oriented technical event designed to evaluate participants’ ability to analyze, interpret, and reason about unknown hardware systems. The event emphasizes observation, deduction, and conceptual understanding rather than physical assembly or complex instrumentation.

Rounds

Following are the details for this event. Read the details carefully about the rounds this event has. Don't miss your chance to participate and showcase your skills!

ROUND 1: Component Logic

Fundamentals round focused on identifying electronic components, understanding their functions, and predicting outputs using unlabeled circuit diagrams, component images, and input-output tables. Pen and paper based with quick elimination.

ROUND 2: Black-Box Reasoning

System thinking round where teams decode the internal logic of an unknown hardware system using observed input-output behavior, timing tables, and system descriptions. Focus on logical inference and pattern recognition.

ROUND 3: Design Interpretation

Advanced reasoning round involving analysis of partially decoded systems and simplified circuit flows. Teams identify logical flaws, suggest improvements, and justify them using basic electronics principles.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Logical accuracy
